Chaupal, the debate society of Delhi School of Journalism (DSJ), University of Delhi, proudly hosted the inaugural edition of Swami Vivekananda Memorial National Debate on 20th March 2024 at the Institute of Life Long Learning, North Campus, University of Delhi on the topic: "This house argues that Morality is derived from reason, not emotion."

The debate witnessed enthusiastic participation from 30 colleges and universities from across the country, converging to engage in thought-provoking dialogue on the relationship between morality, reason and emotion. The program was organized under the astute guidance of Prof. JP Dubey, Honorary Director, Delhi School of Journalism (DSJ), University of Delhi, while Prof. Pankaj Arora, Dean Students' Welfare, University of Delhi was present as the Chief Guest.

Esteemed guests Prof. PR Mondal, Prof. Amitava Chakravarthy, Dean, Faculty of Arts; and Mr. Tushar Dedha, DUSU President, and journalists Mr. Aku Shrivastav and Mr. Abhinav Upadhyay also graced the event by their presence. The debate competition was judged by Dr. Ashu Mishra, Dr. Kumar Ashutosh, Dr. Sunil Kumar Rai, and Dr. Prriyanka Sachdeva.

Devangi Bedi and Siddharth Upadhyay from Dr. Akhilesh Das Gupta Institute of Management and Technology emerged victorious as the Best Team, winning the running trophy, a cash prize of ₹4000 along with mementos. Additionally, Yash from Motilal Nehru College, won the prize of the Best Speaker, receiving a cash prize of ₹2000 and a memento, while Vanshika from Hansraj College secured the title of 2nd Best Speaker, earning a cash prize of ₹1000 and a memento. Bhagwat Prasad Tiwari from Shivaji College secured the title of Best Interjector, accompanied by a cash prize of ₹750 and a trophy.

Mr. Anjum Sharma, the faculty advisor of Chaupal, provided invaluable guidance and support, ensuring the seamless execution of the event. The valedictory ceremony also offered an opportunity to honor the contributions of Ex-Convener Chirag Jha and Convener Harshit Bhatia, whose commitment and leadership have been instrumental in the success of Chaupal.
